‘Let’s Talk Animation’ with the Industry Experts

On 7th May 2011 at G D Birla Sabhagar, Kolkata, DQ Entertainment (International) Ltd., Hyderabad presented through its training wing ‘Webel DQE Animation Academy, Kolkata’ a seminar titled “Let’s Talk Animation” with industry experts with participation from Crest Animation,-Mumbai, Prime Focus-Mumbai, DQ Entertainment-Hyderabad and two alumnus of the academy from DreamWorks-Bangalore and DQ Entertainment-Kolkata.

Srimati Mukherjee, Centre Head – Webel DQE Animation Academy, Kolkata in her introductory talk mentioned about DQE successfully completing its more than two years of operation in Kolkata with a state of the art studio including the training wing ‘Webel DQE Animation Academy’in the Salt Lake Electronics Complex, the IT hub of West Bengal. She said that as the prime mover of animation movement in the state, the organization considered it a responsibility to hold such seminars making people aware of the country’s achievements and potential to attract more and more creative talent into this industry.

Mehul Hirani
Mehul Hirani, Creative Director, Crest Animation, Mumbai in his presentation focused with interesting examples on the challenges of satisfying the director of an animation film and the importance of team work in meeting the same.

Sameet Gupte, CG Lead, Prime Focus, Mumbai explained how animation has helped VFX kind of environment, with examples of scenes and its making from popular live action films and commercials.

Sumanta Ghosh, an alumnus of the academy from its very first batch of 2005 and a Character FX Artist now in DreamWorks, Bangalore touched upon his experience over the period in the industry and took the aspiring students through a drill of realities of the industry with an advice to make sure of one’s passion before stepping into the career option of animation in order to enjoy the profession.

Fahmida Ismat, the young alumnus just certified in 3D Animation from Webel DQE Animation Academy and employed with the Kolkata Production Studio of DQE, with her limited experience nicely cautioned the young aspirants to be especially careful about their attitudinal qualities as demanded in successful teamwork and remain prepared for accepting the challenge of delivering quality output under stringent schedule.

C.S.Rajaram
C.S.Rajaram, CTO (2D/Digital & Overseas Operations), DQE - Hyderabad, gave an excellent coverage on animation with a brief on how animation started in Disney time and where it has reached today with a fair idea about how creativity can help contribution in all the areas of specialization. The show-reel highlighting the vast activities of DQE as a major animation house of the country contributing to the global market place came as an eye opener to the audience.

Md.Ziauddin , Asst.Vice President ( 3D Production), DQE – Hyderabad, in his talk provided valuable advice as well as cautions to the present and future artists detailing out the kind of education and passion the profession demands from one to become truly ‘animator –cum-entertainer’ and at the same time encouraged the extra-ordinary ones to jump into the same with their imaginative power taking them to everywhere.

The seminar was well attended and enjoyed by all from local industry , students from training institutes around, aspiring students from art colleges and general schools and colleges, enthusiasts in general as well as the representatives from print and electronic media.  NASSCOM and FICCI too were represented by their respective local senior officials.
